As starbucks go it is not a bad one ie it is not completely unclean and untidy like most of them but given how many great places are nearby then I wouldn't bother unless you are 12 and skipping school. Then it would probably be perfect.

Falko is great if having great coffee is your priority. If you want to have great coffee with a baby/young child forget it and go up the road to Costa or down the road to Cafe Blush. They don't seem welcoming of children (or in fact adults now that I think about it...)

Without a doubt the least child friendly coffee shop I have been to in Edinburgh. They grudgingly provided a high chair and then pointed out it wasn't safe so they couldn't be responsible. Good they pointed it out I guess but they just seemed a bit cross about the whole baby thing in general. Or indeed the whole customer thing too...

The name of this coffee shop belies the fact that this is very much a serious coffee lovers cafe too. The chocolates look delicious but the wide range of coffee and teas are just as good. The vintage cups and furniture are beautiful to look at too. This is not particularly child friendly in that there isn't much space to move around and there wasn't any child friendly snacks or cakes but I don't think that is the aim of this cafe. If you want more space for kids you would be better crossing the road to Costa...

I think Cafe Blush is the best coffee shop in Morningside. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the coffee and food are great. They also have a great selection of gluten free cakes that look just as good as the regular produce.

They are also genuinely child friendly and make every effort to make life easier for kids and parents. They have thought of everything including making the drawing pens glittery - what's not to love:-)

Toast has a warm friendly feel, an array of pictures on the wall to entertain you while you wait for your friends to arrive. The menu is varied and the service ver good. Can be a bit of a squash with a buggy. I prefer to take my hubbie for dinner or a friend for lunch and leave the kids at home. But that's just a personal choice as it is child friendly.

A bit quirky but definitely my favourite. Quality coffees in an easy atmosphere. Artista also offers a lovely choice food in the evenings and the owner/chef/host is happy to prepare it to your taste. The kitchen is open onto the eating area which always inspires confidence in me. A really friendly local place worth getting to know.

Freemans for me is about easy Saturday Mornings where there is no rush and good to have a blether over coffee and cake (or in my case bread & jam - its the tops). The blackboard wall keeps the kids entertained and as there is wifi you can even fall back on cbeebies on your phone. Yes we all do it!

Victor Hugo's has changed somewhat since it was the only deli on the Southside back in the 70s but still a treat. My 4 and half yr old son just loved the hot chocolate, (very generous amounts of marshmallows). I was slightly ashamed when caught out endulging him in this sugary treat by his Infant School Head whils she was grabbing a sandwich on lunch. My own sandwich was fresh and tasty and the choice is great. Coffee ain't bad either.

A very comfy informal place, a bit old school room grunge.
The service is friendly the food is excellent and they are great with food sensitivities. Very accommodating with children they have nice play area. They also allow dogs in which I personally am not so comfortable with. a good place to park for a long chat. The toffee pecan flapjack is pretty amazing.
